Banaphul
Banaphul was born in 1899 in Manihari or Purnia Bihar. Bolai Chand Mukhopadhyay was his real name. He got his medical degree from Patna University and practiced medicine throughout his life. Banaphul wrote a lot including thousands of poems, 586 short stories, 60 novels, 5 dramas, a number of one-act plays, an autobiography, and numerous essays. ‘Sthabar’ and ‘Jangam’ are his well known classic novels. He created a new style for his short stories. His stories were often very short in length and very simple in their plots, and often they have a pleasant humorous touch. Banaphul was the recipient of Ananda Puroshkar, Rabindra Puroshkar and Jagattarini Puroshkar. He died in 1979.
