Syed Shamsul Haq was born in Kurigram on 27 December in 1935. His father Syed Siddique Husain was a homeopathic physician and mother Halima Khatun was a house wife. He is the first son of his parent and he has a large family with seven brothers and sisters. Syed Shamsul Haq has passed Matriculation examination from Dhaka collegiate school, intermediate examination from Jagannath collage and he admitted English department of Dhaka university, but he did not complete his study. He took journalism as a carrier at first life, but decided later to concentrate on writing and left journalism. Syed Shamsul Haq is a versatile writer who writes poetry, fiction, plays and essays. He is a pioneer poet of Bangladesh in this time. He is an experimentalist,experiments with various forms and the language have given a new direction to Bangla literature.Baishakhe Rachito Pongktimala, Ekoda Ek Rajje, Brishti O Bidrohigon, Khelaram Khele Ja, Rokto Golap, Payer Awaj Paoa Jay, Nuruldiner Sara Jibon are his well known work. Syed Shamsul Haq has got many awards for his contribution to bangla literature such as Bangla Academy Award (1966), Ekushey Padak (1984), Swadhinata Padak (2000) etc.
